Desi's Family Furniture

I always knew the furniture in our theatre lobby was special, but I didn't really know all about it's history until a few weeks ago.  Here's what happened.  Tom Watson, a longtime friend of Desi's family, came to our theatre to see Desi in "Love Letters."  He noticed the furniture in our lobby looked just like furniture in a photo he had of Desi's folks taken in their home in Chatsworth, CA in the late 40's.  Once he realized this was furniture from Lucille Ball's home and that we had reupholstered it, he knew it was the same furniture in his photo.  

Frank Gorey was also at "Love Letters" and having worked for Desi's mom for over 40 years, he verified that our lobby furniture was indeed the same furniture in Tom's photo and went on to give me a full history of it's origin.

 

Thousands of people have passed thru our theatre lobby and hundreds of them have asked about the furniture.  Now I can offer a better answer.  Here's a current picture of the same chairs, in our lobby, after we had them reupholstered.  There are a few more photos in the "Our theatre" photo album at the top of this site.
