Once upon a time there was clean humor
in America. I grew up in Las Vegas and realize
there have always been raunchy comedians
so I'm not negating that raunch exists.
However old-fashioned, clean humor feels
good and leaves one with a happy feeling.
At a dinner recently, I was seated between
two men both of whom are my elders and
both of whom I have always respected.
They BOTH told dirty jokes even after I
protested and asked them not to.
They just laughed and went on as I sat there
with my face straight (Mr. Arnaz was at the
other end of the table and didn't hear this
exchange altho I told him about it later.)
It made me a little sad that these two OLD
men are giving raunchy humor to the world
when at the end of their lives one would
think they would have tapped into beauty,
love, goodness and God (both men claim
to be religious and both go to church.)
There IS sickness in this world but we
don't have to go along with it. I will
stand for what is Kind & Good & Right
rather than smile at sickness just to earn
a Brownie point from the sickos. I'm
just a little speck in the ocean but just as
one drop of colored paint can affect a
whole can of white paint, one person
can affect a community.
Our choice is to stand for what is Right
or slide down into the mud whilst telling
dirty jokes. And I must add how awful it
is to hear a pretty, young girl letting the
F-word fly out of her mouth without a
second thought. Please girls, don't swear!
Swearing makes you UN-pretty.
Since I'm sharing this with my Facebook friends
some of you may think I'm being snooty. But
think about it! Everything that comes out of
our mouths goes out into the world. So shouldn't
we be much more attentive to what we say?
“There are things to confess that enrich the
world, and things that need not be said."
~ Joni Mitchell
Three cheers for good, clean humor... for love
and laughter and goodness. Three cheers for
